Over the past year, I have been seeing Abby for monthly facials. This is something new that I have added into my skincare routine, and it was the best decision that I could have made.
Meet Martha (pictured left) and Abigail (pictured right), co-owners of Skintastic Spa Boutique.
Abby and Martha met in 2016. From 2014-2016, Abby was the sole owner of Skintastic Spa Boutique located in North Philly (N 5th Street). Abby was looking to grow her business, and had interest in finding a business partner to expand the Spa. One of Abby’s clients introduced her to Martha. It was a match made in heaven. Abby describes their partnership as symbiotic. They re-located Skintastic in October of 2016 to the Northeast Philly storefront, and they haven’t looked back since!
BACKGROUND AND EXPERIENCE
Abby and Martha have extensive backgrounds and skills.
Abby was born and raised in NY. In 1980, she started her journey at Wilfred Academy of Hair and Beauty Culture in Brooklyn. She received her cosmetology license, and continued her education with Robert Fiance, where she later earned a coloring certificate. In 1994, Abby moved to Long Island where she raised her family. She took some massage courses, and pursued massage therapy. In 2009, Abby decided to pursue another avenue, a 19-month course at Lincoln Tech to become a Medical Assistant. Abby was a Medical Assistant for 6 months, realizing this was not the path for her. In 2011, her cosmetologist license had lapsed, and she wanted to focus her energy solely on skin. Abby trained for 600 hours at the Bucks County School of Beauty Culture. In 2012 she became certified in electrolysis and became a licensed esthetician. Abby has worked for various prestigious retailers (Macy’s, Strawbridges). In addition, she was a Skincare Specialist for 10 years with Chanel, traveling from store to store performing facials and makeup application. Following her career with Chanel, Skintastic was founded.
Martha was born and raised in Columbia. She started her career as a licensed practical nurse (LPN), working in a plastic surgery center. She specialized in lymphatic massage and assisted with various nursing duties. Martha later took an esthetics course in Columbia where she earned her license. She worked in a spa, then decided to open her own spa in a posh area of Columbia. Martha met her husband in Columbia, later moving to Philadelphia, PA where she became licensed in the U.S. Martha was working at Magaly Spa prior to joining forces with Abby at Skintastic Spa Boutique. Martha now performs a myriad of services, from massage, to facials, to eyelash application, to microblading.

WHY ARE FACIALS IMPORTANT?
Facials are crucial in the metabolizing of the skin, uptake of oxygen to the tissues, and stimulation of the lymphatic system (circulation). Facials help to hydrate the skin, balance the natural PH, assist in cell turnover, and decongest the pores. All of these benefits are anti-aging at their core.
WHAT IS YOUR APPROACH TO EACH CLIENT’S SKIN?
Customization. Everybody’s skin is different, from the thickness and texture, down to the coloring and pigmentation. Skintastic takes an individual approach to each client, utilizing different techniques and products. They introduce new things as the skin evolves.
WHAT CAN PEOPLE EXPECT WHEN GETTING A FACIAL?
Comfort, relaxation and serenity.
Come with a clean, dry face. Please remove all jewelry, including facial jewelry, earrings and necklaces.
You may experience slight discomfort and pressure with a deep facial. Keep in mind, your pores are being decongested. You may experience discomfort with modalities (high frequency zapping/burning) and facial technology. Microdermabrasion is a sucking sensation. Little to no discomfort.
ABBY- IF YOU HAD TO CHOOSE ONE PRODUCT TO RECOMMEND, WHAT WOULD IT BE AND WHY? WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF THIS PRODUCT?
“I can’t pick just one, I would have to choose two: IMAGE Skincare’s Vital C Serum and the Prevention+ Sunscreen. Serums take care of a specific need. They penetrate the skin with molecules, while moisturizers are only topical. The Vital C Serum helps to destroy free radicals with the vitamin C (an antioxidant). Sunscreen is preventative against UVA/UVB rays. It helps to protect against skin damage, loss of collagen, and cancer. Skin damage can also reconstruct the DNA in your skin. This is a non-greasy formula.”
