make (someone) stronger and more confident, especially in controlling their life and claiming their rights.
I woke up today and thought, what empowers me? This is a really bold question when you think about it. What makes me feel strong and confident?
#1) My Independence: I have always been very independent, and I’ve never had a problem doing things by myself. I love “me” days. Getting my nails done, or taking myself out to lunch. It’s very therapeutic to people watch and enjoy a good meal. I have even gone to a concert by myself, as nothing would stop me from seeing Bon Iver.
#2) Trying New Things: This is the spice of life. I consider myself to be adventurous. I’ve been skydiving and zip-lining. I am always trying new foods, restaurants, the latest makeup trends. I strive to travel to new places. I find it very rewarding to step outside of my comfort zone. My mantra: No risk, no reward.
#3) Financial Independence: I started working when I was 12 years old, and have always had a job ever since. It is a privilege to be able to wake up every day and go to work. It’s an amazing feeling knowing that I can sustain myself.
#4) Exercise: I truly don’t feel myself unless I work out. My job is sedentary, so it’s important that I remain active. I enjoy weight training, SoulCycle, and TRX. My day feels complete once I’ve made it to the gym. Create a great playlist and go sweat it out.
#5) Getting A Tattoo: I get so excited when I think about getting a new tattoo. I got my first tattoo when I was 18, and now have three. Tattoos are art. There is nothing more thrilling and empowering than decorating your canvas. I can’t wait for my fourth!
#6) A Good Haircut, And A Put-Together Outfit: Look good, feel good. Nothing rings more true. I feel my best when I take the time to curate an outfit, and when I get a fresh cut or color. Hair grows back, so why not try that style you’ve been wanting to try? These simple things empower me to look and feel my best.
